Rawpeg Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Rawpeg does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal information. It runs entirely on your device, and Forework Ventures LLC never receives your photos, your files, or any data about how you use the App. From the App, the only personal information we receive is what you choose to send us, for example in a support email. Our website, rawpeg.app, uses privacy-friendly visitor statistics that we host ourselves, described in Section 2.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Rawpeg desktop application (the “App”) and the rawpeg.app website (the “Website”) handle, where that information is stored, and what choices you have. “Forework Ventures LLC,” “Forework,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Forework Ventures LLC, the publisher of the App (foreworkventures.com). “You” means any person who downloads, installs, or uses the App.

Scope. This Policy covers the App and the Website. It does not cover the Forework website (foreworkventures.com), any app store, download service, or payment processor through which you obtain the App, or any other product or service. Those are governed by their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices.

Acceptance. By installing or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree with it, do not install or use the App.

2. Information the App Handles

The App processes information only on your device and only to do what you ask it to do. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.

What we do not collect. The App has no user accounts, sign-in, analytics, telemetry, advertising, tracking, crash reporting, or automatic update checks. It contains no code that connects to the internet. We do not receive your name, email address, location, device identifiers, IP address, photos, or usage data from the App.

What the App reads on your device. When you open a folder, the App reads:

  • File names, folder paths, and file sizes in that folder.
  • Image data from JPEG files, to display previews.
  • Embedded photo metadata (EXIF), such as capture date and time, camera and lens model, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, focal length, exposure, metering, flash, and white balance.
  • Existing XMP sidecar files, to detect whether one is present.

Photo metadata can contain personal information, such as camera serial numbers or GPS location, if your camera recorded it. The App does not display or use GPS location, and it does not copy metadata anywhere outside your device.

What the App stores on your device.

Item Where it is stored What it contains
Preferences Your operating system’s standard application data folder Theme choice, sidebar visibility, and window size and position
Session file (.rawpeg.json) The photo folder you opened Relative file names of your photos, your keep/discard decisions, ratings, color tags and any names you give them, which photos you have viewed, and the last photo you viewed
Holding folder (_Rawpeg_Holding) The photo folder you opened Files you chose to set aside, plus dated manifest files listing the files moved or created, so the action can be undone
XMP sidecars (optional) Beside your photos Star ratings, color labels, and tag keywords, created only when you turn on XMP export

These files stay on your device, or on whatever drive or synced folder you chose to open. If that folder is synced to a cloud service (for example iCloud, Dropbox, or OneDrive), that service may copy these files under its own terms. That copying is controlled by you and the service, not by us.

Website visitor statistics. The Website measures visits with analytics software that we host ourselves, at metrics.stackwelltechnologies.com. We do not use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking service, and visitor statistics are not shared with anyone. We record the pages you view, how you arrived, links you follow off the Website, your browser and device type, and your approximate location based on your IP address. Your IP address and browser details are also used to tell separate visits apart and count unique visitors. The Website does not use cookies. We use these statistics only in aggregate, to see how many people visit and which pages are useful. Like any web server, ours may also keep short-lived request logs for security and troubleshooting.

Information you send us directly. If you contact us (for example by email for support), we receive whatever you choose to include, such as your name, email address, and message. We use it only to respond to you.

3. How Information Is Used

The App uses the information above only on your device, to provide its features:

  • Displaying your photos and their metadata.
  • Grouping RAW and JPEG files of the same shot.
  • Remembering your decisions so you can resume a session.
  • Moving files you set aside into the holding folder, and undoing that move.
  • Writing XMP sidecars, when you turn that option on.
  • Remembering your display preferences.

We use Website visitor statistics only to measure traffic and improve the Website.

We use information you send us directly only to answer your inquiry, provide support, keep records of our correspondence, and comply with legal obligations.

Legal bases (EEA, UK, and Switzerland). Because the App’s processing happens on your device and is not under our control, we are not a controller of that data. For Website visitor statistics, we rely on our legitimate interest in understanding, in aggregate, how the Website is used. For information you send us directly, we rely on our legitimate interests in responding to you and running our business, on performance of a contract where you request support for a product you obtained, and on compliance with legal obligations.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, automated decision-making, or training machine-learning models.

4. How Information Is Shared

The App shares nothing, because it sends nothing. Website visitor statistics stay on servers we operate and are not shared with analytics or advertising companies. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California law.

We may disclose information you send us directly only:

  • To service providers that help us operate, such as our email provider, under obligations to protect it and use it only for us.
  • For legal reasons, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Forework, our users, or others, or to detect and address fraud or security issues.
  • In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of our assets. Any successor will be bound by this Policy for information it receives.
  • With your consent, or at your direction.

5. Retention and Security

Data the App stores on your device stays there until you delete it. We cannot see, access, recover, or delete it for you.

Removing App data. To remove what the App stores:

  • Delete .rawpeg.json and, once you no longer need it, the _Rawpeg_Holding folder from any photo folder you opened. Files in the holding folder are your own photos; review them before deleting.
  • Delete any XMP sidecars you no longer want.
  • Uninstall the App and delete its preferences from your operating system’s application data folder.

Website visitor statistics. We keep visitor statistics only as long as they are useful for understanding Website traffic over time, and then delete them.

Information you send us. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to respond, provide support, keep business records, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations, and then delete it.

Security. Because the App works offline, the security of data it handles depends on the security of your device, its storage, and any backup or sync service you use. We use reasonable measures to protect information you send us. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for securing your device, files, and backups.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You control all App data directly on your device, so you can view, change, or delete it at any time without contacting us.

Opting out of Website statistics. You can stop the Website from recording your visits by blocking scripts from metrics.stackwelltechnologies.com, for example with a content blocker or your browser’s privacy settings. The Website works fully without it.

For Website visitor statistics and information you send us directly, depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Know or access what personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your information.
  • Receive a portable copy of your information.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent where we rely on it.
  • Opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising. We do none of these.
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

EEA, UK, and Swiss residents may also lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.

California residents. In the past 12 months we have not sold or shared personal information, and we do not knowingly sell or share the information of anyone under 16. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require a right to limit. The only categories of personal information we may collect are identifiers, internet or other electronic network activity information (Website visits), approximate geolocation, and the contents of communications you send us, used and disclosed only as described in Sections 3 and 4.

Other U.S. states. Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and others) may exercise the rights their state law provides, including any right to appeal a decision on a request.

How to make a request. Contact us as described in Section 11. We will verify your request using information you have already given us, and respond within the time required by applicable law. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows; we may require proof of the agent’s authority. We may decline requests that are unverifiable, manifestly unfounded, excessive, or that the law allows us to refuse.

7. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher age), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. International Users and Third-Party Services

Forework Ventures LLC is based in the United States. If you visit the Website or send us information from outside the United States, it will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

The App runs on your operating system and may use its standard features, such as file-open dialogs and opening a folder in Finder, File Explorer, or your Linux file manager. Your operating system may collect crash reports or diagnostics about the App under its own settings and policies; if it offers to share such reports with developers, any report we receive is used only to fix problems in the App. Your operating system, app stores, download sites, cloud sync services, and any other third-party software you use with the App are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We do not control and are not responsible for them.

9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The App moves, organizes, and writes files on your device at your direction. You are responsible for keeping backups of your photos and data before using it.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. FOREWORK VENTURES LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, FILES, OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE APP OR THIS POLICY, INCLUDING ANY ACCESS TO DATA ON YOUR DEVICE BY THIRD PARTIES, MALWARE, OR SERVICES OUTSIDE OUR CONTROL.

This Policy is a statement of our practices. It does not create contractual rights or obligations beyond those required by applicable law. Use of the App is also governed by any end user license agreement or terms of use that accompany it, which control in the event of a conflict on matters other than privacy.

Nothing in this Policy limits any right you have that cannot be waived under applicable law, including consumer protection and data protection laws in your country of residence.

Governing law. Except where your local law requires otherwise, this Policy is governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time, for example if the App gains new features or the Website changes how it measures visits. We will post the updated Policy with a new “Last updated” date and, for material changes, give notice through the App, its release notes, or our website. If a future version of the App would collect or transmit personal information, we will update this Policy before that version is released and, where the law requires, ask for your consent. Your continued use of the App after an update takes effect means you accept the updated Policy.
